American Mineral Treasures the brainchild of Gene Meieran and Shields Flynn, celebrates the great US mineral specimen localities that were producing in the latter half of the twentieth century. This book and the historic 2008 display at the Tucson Gem and Mineral Society show are the culmination of mre than three years of planning, writing, photographing, editing, and hand-wringing by hundreds of able and eager US collectors, adminitrators and scientists.
Coordinating the personalities involved and keeping the project on schedule should have been feat enough, but the team also wanted the book to be affordable to any collector who wanted a copy! The project needed funds to help underwrite the cost of a heavy, well illustrated volume. And just like the talented authors, illustrators, and editors, who contributed to the book, the community of dealers and collectors readily stepped up to sponsor the historic project. Wayne and Dona Leicht of Kristalle were among those sponsors, as was Ian Bruce of Crystal Classics, the project's sole foreign sponsor.
The displays made the 2008 Tucson Gem and Mineral Society show a truly memorable and historic experience. The book was released at the show and was an instant must-have. For all intents and purposes, it was out of print within a year of its 2008 publication.
In addition to their sponsorship, Ian, Wayne, and Dona reserved 100 book blocks to be specially bound for their customers. This linen-bound volume is the Kristalle-Crystal Classics limited edition. It represents their unparalleled patronage of an unprecedented project, which brought out the best in the US mineral-collecting-community.
