This book is a compilation of 219 detailed abstracts of new mineral species descriptions published during the five-year period from 1990 to 1994. The abstracts are especially valuable in that they commonly contain data that appeared in the original unpublished IMA proposals but failed to appear in the formal published descriptions. Dr. Mandarino, former Chairman of the IMA’s Commission on New Minerals and Mineral Names, not only abstracted but critiqued and corrected the published information, often in consultation with the original authors. Information is given on the locality, type of occurrence, general appearance, and physical properties. Chemistry, crystallography, X-ray powder diffraction data, optical properties, relationship to other species, and derivation of the name, references and other details. Many crystal drawings are included which were prepared specifically for this work by Dr. Mandarino based on information provided by the original describer.
