This opal mining adventure story takes place in the Australian Outback. A miner struggles to find his fortune by digging for black opal. His quest includes the interaction of people, animals, and the elusive “ratters” that interfere with his efforts.
Richard Holmes spent over 35 years in corporate America holding various financial management positions. He was a licensed certified public accountant during his corporate career and was instrumental in setting up startup companies in both the mining and manufacturing industries. In retirement, his travels have included many trips to Australia where he developed a great interest in the Australian outback. His many hobby interests include 25 years of lapidary on opal from Australia. His search for higher quality opal led him to Lightning Ridge Australia and ultimately writing the novelette, “The Ratters of Lightning Ridge.”
