To the extent that intent is intrinsic to art, natural mineral specimens, though evocative, are no more works of art than are sunsets. In the hands of a master, however, a crystal, a scene, or a moment can inspire art. Eberhard Equit is one such master. Working in watercolor and colored pencils, Mr. Equit creates realistic, finely detailed mineral portraits on a 1:1 scale. Using very fine, specially made brushes, it takes him about a day to meticulously paint a postage-stamp sized area.
Mr Equit has published two books of his mineral art: Meisterwerke Sächsischer Minerale (1994) and The Worlds Mineral Masterpieces (2002), both of which are out of print. And in October 2015, at the Munich Show, Mr. Equit will release his third book of mineral art: Drawings of Mineral Masterpieces. This magnificent 350 page volume will include some 115 plates depicting 150 specimens.
Limited leather and linen (with slipcover) editions will be available, and we are accepting preorders for both. Because of ongoing fluctuations in the exchange rate, preorders will need to be prepaid (installment plans can be arranged). Be sure to let us know if and how you want your copy autographed and/or inscribed. In most cases, we will ship the books directly from Germany and most should arrive in early November.
