Hungary's most famous mineral locality, the Rudabánya copper, silver, iron deposit has been mined on and off, probably since the new Stone Age. Though the mine is now closed and the town nearly abandoned, Rudabánya's long history and fine mineral specimens continue to capture the imaginations of collectors. And for good reason, the deposit's unique geology has given rise to at least 160 different mineral species, including its celebrated "primary" malachite.
Authors Sándor Szakáll, Gábor Koller, László Kupi, Norbert Németh, and Andrea Papp bring give expert accounts of their research and first-hand experience with the locality, its history and mineral specimens, which are a source of great national pride. More than 250 illustrations.
